Kings Beach Library livens up summer

KINGS BEACH, Calif. — Kings Beach Public Library hosted local historians / authors Carol Van Etten and Eddy Ancinas for their second annual “Evening by the Creek.”

This annual event endeavors to provide the community an intimate gathering with local literary talent. The authors shared their vast knowledge of the fascinating history of North Lake Tahoe. Carol’s new book “Tahoe City’s First 100 years,” details the movers and shakers of Tahoe City’s creation and the generally unknown details of Tahoe City as it evolved into the town it is today.

Eddy’s book “Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows: Tales from Two Valleys” is a detailed chronology of the people and circumstances that shaped the making of the two unique ski resorts and the eventual joining of the two in 2011. The event drew history buffs and those looking for a relaxing evening by Griff Creek in Kings Beach.

MAGIC AT THE LIBRARY

Not your typical literary magic, but Magic by Bill Sparacino! See what this renowned magician has up his sleeve on Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m. This event is free and sure to be fun for all ages.

Technology classes continue at the library on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Sign up for the “Hour with the Expert” series on the second Thursday with Carl Leblanc of Tahoe Tech Group from 2-3 p.m., or learn a specific skill on the fourth Thursday from 2-3 p.m. with Doug Greenwood of Alpensoftware. Doug’s next class is July 25, “Tech Talk for Seniors.” Doug will help you catch up on the latest technology: what are apps, smart phones, tablets, social networking and more.

Preschool Storytime continues every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Read, sing, use a felt board and create a theme-related craft. Stop by and explore the new “Book Nook.” There are also used books for sale in the cozy shed by the creek. Find a great summer read and support library programming with your donation.s
