Village Notes: What’s happening in Incline Village

Football season has returned and now we can always find a game to watch at one of our local pubs, casinos or sports bars. Hooray! Please remember to support all of our local businesses.

Also please take the time on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to observe Patriots Day in some small way.

Welcome to the Parasol AmeriCorps 2013-14 team members. The 16 members arrived on Tuesday and will be out and about getting acquainted with our community this week. Watch for a team photo to come soon.

Saturday, Sept. 7, is the annual Washoe County Community Sheriff’s Picnic. Some of the information in my column last week was incorrect, so this is the real information. Hosts for the annual event include the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, IVGID, Nevada Highway Patrol and the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District. The free event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Green, with a barbecue, SWAT, K-9’s, Marine 9, Raven Helicopter, NHP and fire apparatus plus lots of other fun. And you can have your children fingerprinted as well. Go enjoy!

The annual Dog Day in the Park is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista. Raffle tickets are available even if you cannot attend. For information call Pam Berger at 530-546-4770.

Toccata’s Musical Tribute to the late Paul Guttman is at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, at St. Patrick’s Church. Admission is free. For more information visit www.ToccataTahoe.com or call 775-313-9697.

Put together a team and bowl in the annual Tahoe Family Solutions Bowl-A-Thon on Sept. 28. Help raise money for TFS and have a great time. For information call 775-298-0004.

Save the Date for the annual Tahoe Fall Fest on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Big Water Grille. This is the annual fundraiser for Tahoe’s Connection for Families, and more information will be available soon for tickets, but contact Karen Hovorka at klhovorka@yahoo.com for sponsorship information now.

Mark your calendar for the “19th Century Travel and 21st Century Travelers’ presentation on Sunday, Oct. 20, at Sierra Nevada College. More information on this exciting event from Myths and Mountains in the weeks to come, but if you want to make a reservation now email megan@mythsandmountinas.com or call 775-832-5454. Visit www.READGlobal.org for more information about the event.

Congratulations to Phyllis Root. She won a silver medal in singles tennis for ages 75-79 during the World Master Games in Torino, Italy. This was held Aug. 2-11. Way to Go Phyllis!

Happy Anniversary to Marilyn and Art Berliner on Sept. 10. Congratulations!

Not too many Birthday wishes this week but we can celebrate with Brian Collier and Stevie Walton on Sept. 12. Happy Birthday!

The best deal and steal in the Village this week is at the Electric Blue Elephant Food Truck. On Tuesdays, the truck is located outside Redemption Sports, but they also visit the Tunnel Creek Farmers Market. For gluten free, vegan or vegetarian items, this is the place. Check it out.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
