Be a Holiday Wish Box elf

Calling all individuals, businesses and able bodies wishing to spread holiday cheer for seniors in Truckee. Clarence A2C is at it again, gathering gifts for seniors, to be distributed at the fabulous December party held at the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments. This gift-giving extravaganza is not related to Sierra Senior Services or Meals on Wheels. Clarence A2C needs 110 elves to make donations of $25 gift cards. To lend a helping holiday hand email xmas.wish @hotmail.com. Merchants are encouraged to donate goodies to the gift bags.

300 Miles for Mentoring

This year’s ride will take the riderson a non-stop loop, departing downtown Truckee on Sept. 13 from CoffeeBar, and returning to CoffeeBar at noon on the Sept. 14. A huge party catered by Red Truck will start at noon Sept. 14 and run until 3 p.m., with proceeds going to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County & North Lake Tahoe. Visit www.bigsofnc.org. Lake Mary Cabin Dinner Series continues

Sugar Bowl’s Lake Mary Cabin Dinner Series will again feature a different local nonprofit organization, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting its worthy cause. Dinner dates and nonprofit partners: Sept. 14, SWEP; and Sept. 15: Sierra Avalanche Center. Nestled next to Lake Mary, the stunning ambiance of the patio pairs perfectly with a French-inspired California cuisine menu created by Chef Alan Davis. To make a reservation call 530-426-7002.

Tahoe Sierra Century Ride

Celebrating its 11th anniversary, the annual Tahoe Sierra Century Ride is slated for Saturday, Sept. 14. Benefiting North Tahoe’s middle and high school music programs, the ride has full support services and after-party featuring food, drink and live student music. All of the routes start and finish in the Village at Squaw Valley. To register for the 30-mile, 60-mile or 100-mile rides, visit www.tahoesierracentury.com.

Resorting to madness?

The Friends of Squaw Valley invite you to a special showing of the documentary “Resorting to Madness,” followed by an interactive discussion with its producer Hunter Sykes. The film addresses the impacts of the modern ski resort industry on mountain communities and environments. The event will be held at the Resort at Squaw Creek, Sept. 14, 6-9 p.m., and will include an update on the KSL proposed development. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Wonderful raffle prizes will be available.

The Flavor of Spain

Project MANA and Sierra Senior Services present “A Night of Food & Flamenco” at Martis Camp, Lookout Lodge, Sunday, Sept. 15, 4-7 p.m. Evening includes: Paella by Martis Camp, tapas and sangria. Truckee Tahoe Republican Women

The September general meeting of the Truckee Tahoe Republican Women Federated will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 11:15 a.m. at Rosie’s Cafe in Tahoe City. Guest speaker Susan Tully is the National Field Director from the Federation for American Immigration Reform. Luncheon meeting cost is $20, pay at the door. Any interested Republican is welcome. Spiritual Center concert

Take part in a fun-filled evening of passion and inspiration through Amy Steinberg’s gift of music, song and performance. Uplifting, enlightening, and hilarious, with a voice that can bring down the house, Amy Steinberg is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller. Presented by the Center for Spiritual Living Tahoe Truckee, this concert is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. Potluck dinner before the concert at 6 p.m. is your chance to mingle and meet Amy. It’s a BizTalk Blender

Join the BizTalk Blender, Thursday, Sept. 19, 5:30-7 p.m. at Northstar California. The first 30 minutes are set aside for “blending” – similar to a mixer, including food and beverages. The next step is the “BizTalk” group discussion – participants break into small groups to discuss business topics. The last step is the follow-up.
