Son helps rescue dad in Lake Tahoe snowmobile crash

The 9-year-old son of a South Lake Tahoe man helped rescue his father from a snowmobile crash Sunday in the Blue Lakes area of Alpine County.

John Taylor and his son, Bode Beirdneau of Marin County, were snowmobiling in the area when Taylor lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons. He collided with a tree and injured his leg, becoming partially entangled with the snowmobile and stuck under the wreckage.

Bode, after helping dig his dad out from underneath the vehicle, took his snowmobile to get help. He rode toward Highway 88 on Blue Lakes Road until finding an employee with Lake Tahoe Adventures, who then radioed for help, according to California Highway Patrol.

Bode then led emergency responders back to his father, who suffered from a broken femur and possibly some broken ribs. On Thursday, Taylor said he was home from the hospital and using crutches.
