Incline’s Alan Tiras earns Judge of the Year distinction

Incline Village Justice of the Peace, E. Alan Tiras was named the 2013 Judge of the Year by the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction during recent award ceremonies at the NJLJ annual banquet in North Las Vegas.

NJLJ, which represents justices of the peace and municipal court Judges throughout the Nevada, sponsors annual educational seminars each year, provides assistance and support to members and offers advice to the legislature on issues relating to the state’s judiciary.

Tiras served as president of the NJLJ during the 2013-14 term and is a regular lecturer at the annual seminars.

“Receiving the Judge of the Year award was extremely humbling.” Tiras said. “We have so many dedicated judges who, every day, do so many valuable and selfless things, it’s quite an honor to be recognized in this way.”

The serving president of the association is typically ineligible for the award, but Tahoe Justice Court Judge Richard Glasson, the 2013 recipient, stated during his presentation of the award that, “Judge Tiras’ work and effort this past year made him the unanimous choice for Judge of the Year, bucking tradition.”

Tiras has been a full-time Incline resident since moving here in 1990 with his wife, Natalie, and children, Meredith and Nathan.

A former professor of business law at Sierra Nevada College, Tiras has served as president/chairman of the following organizations: Incline Village/Crystal Bay Chamber of Commerce, Incline High School Boosters Club, Incline Village Citizen’s Advisory Board and the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline.

In addition, he has served as a member of the boards of the Incline Schools Academic Excellence Foundation, CYMBAL and Incline Star Follies. Since 2002, he has been a coach for the Incline High School “We the People” teams.

A former City Councilman in Seminole, Okla., he was honored as that town’s Citizen of the Year in 1985.
