Truckee artist receives instructor of the year award

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nev. announced they have selected artist Eva S. Nichols from Truckee as its Workforce Development and Continuing Education Community Education Instructor of the Year.

Eva is a well-known watercolor artist and instructor residing in Truckee. She has been teaching art classes at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno since 2011, and has become a sought-after artist and instructor locally, as well as abroad.

Originating from Denmark, Eva spent 20 years on the Monterey Peninsula before moving to Truckee in 2010. She quickly became involved with the Tahoe / Truckee art scene and she is an active member of the North Tahoe Arts ARTisan shop. Eva has won numerous awards for her vibrant and colorful watercolors and collages inspired by local scenery as well as her travels. Eva said, “Nature is my inspiration, color is my passion.” It shows in her paintings.

Eva has spent time as an artist in residence at Mendocino Art Center, and she has traveled the world to learn from both nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. With her background as a language instructor, it was natural for Eva to move into art instruction and combine her love for painting and teaching.

She is an inspiring teacher passionate about her art and creates an environment where students feel free to experiment and explore their creativity, which is one of the reasons she is receiving this latest honor.
