2014 Community Philanthropists: Dean and Madylon Meiling

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Madylon and Dean Meiling not only have a deep love for our community, they are generous and visionary philanthropists. Many local organizations have flourished and the community has been strengthened as a result of their leadership and generosity.

The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation honored the Meilings with the presentation of the Community Philanthropists of the Year award during the organization’s 2014 Open House on June 26.

As influential leaders of civic, business, educational and community groups, the Meilings give so much back to the community with their own time and effort as they tackle important local issues.

Dean served as Chairman of the Incline Village/Crystal Bay 2020 Vision Plan to help prepare an assessment of Incline Village/Crystal Bay, and Madylon served on the education committee as a part of that same effort.

The Meiling philanthropic legacy includes large and small organizations and programs with a focus on the Lake Tahoe Basin and its future. Contributions include “brick-and-mortar” projects such as Parasol’s Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center, Pet Network Humane Society’s Meiling Animal Shelter, the Incline Village Community Hospital earthquake retrofit and the Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society.

These are invaluable assets that will be here to serve community members for many years to come. Through their donor-advised fund at Parasol, they have supported many services and programs in the areas of education, the arts, social services and the environment, enriching our community in the process.

Madylon’s passion for blending world-class cultural events with the beauty of the Lake Tahoe region and her vision of supporting cultural tourism and economic development created Lake Tahoe SummerFest.
