Salvaged in Tahoe City to celebrate one-year anniversary

When Salvaged opened its doors in July of last year, with limited goods and not even a sign, co-owners Alissa Morganti, a seasoned art teacher and Renee Koijane, a budding oil painter, were pleasantly surprised with the community’s enthusiasm for a space to create.

One year later, thanks to an organically growing stable of area artisans and art teachers (and a sign), Salvaged is forming deeper roots and blossoming in downtown Tahoe City.

With humble beginnings and a do-it-yourself work ethic, Alissa and Renee are most grateful for the people who have supported Salvaged along the journey.

To celebrate and toast the community, Salvaged is holding its one-year anniversary party Thursday, July 31, 6-9 p.m. at its 585 West Lake Blvd. location, next to the Pet Station and just north of the Tahoe House. Sangria and beer will be poured, alongside live music and hula hooping. Inside will remain open for business, with special anniversary sales and a raffle to win a pair of Chakana Roots boots.

“This is a happy business that allows us to meet and interact with people fulfilling their passions through their craft,” said Koijane. “Exposure to other artists and artisans is incredibly motivating and inspirational, in part because artists intrinsically serve as a support group for each other, stronger banded together in shared artistic endeavors.”

Presently inside Salvaged (goods rotate regularly) one will find fused glasswork of reclaimed materials, watercolor and oil paintings, vintage and refurbished furniture and treasures, jewelry, textiles, art supplies and other household and personal goods, all handmade and mostly made of upcycled or salvaged materials.

Rotating workshops will be offered throughout the year for adults and kids, along with year round private oil painting and drawing instruction. All classes and most goods offered at Salvaged can also be purchased online at www.salvagedtahoe.com.
