TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Come experience the swing and rhythm of the 1940s Friday, Jan. 30, from 7-9:30 p.m. when the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band takes to the stage at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

This year’s theme, “Sing, Sing, Sing (with a Swing)” is taken from a Benny Goodman tune, which was a chart-topper in the late 30s and 40s.

An iconic Tahoe community event, 40s Night brings to life an era when all of America was listening and dancing to the same music: Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey, to name a few.

On radio, in theaters and ballrooms, the big bands – not unlike the NTHS Jazz Band – garnered a faithful following.

This body of music did much to sustain national morale during World War II, the pivotal event of the 1940s.

This homage to “the greatest generation” is also a key fundraiser for the NTHS Jazz Band’s spring goodwill tour.

Under the direction of talented bandleader Dean Nordby, this energetic student group plans to perform at a variety of schools, hospitals and senior centers in central California.

Attendees are encouraged to don 1940s garb or at the very least bring a swingin’ attitude.

Tickets are $20 per person and include hearty appetizers and a no-host bar. Buy tickets from any NTHS Jazz Band member, The Store in Tahoe City, or at the door.
