Norcal man arrested after vehicle pursuit near Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A Carmichael, Calif., man was charged with driving under the influence and felony evading with disregard for public safety after leading law enforcement in a pursuit early Wednesday on Interstate 80, according to officials.

Chris James Shepler, 39, was reported to the California Highway Patrol by a motorists at approximately 4:11 a.m. as weaving in and out of the lanes of traffic and not allowing others to pass, according to a press release.

Pete Mann, CHP officer and the Truckee division’s public information officer, caught up with the vehicle on I-80 east, at Highway 20, and observed it weaving through traffic, while Shepler dumped trash out the window.

As the pursuit passed Soda Springs Road, Truckee CHP officer Derrick Delong deployed a spike strip, successfully deflating the vehicle’s front tires. The 16-mile pursuit ended at 4:32 a.m., just east of the Donner Summit Rest Area.

Shepler will be arraigned on his charges in the coming days and given a court date, Mann said.
