Reminder: North Tahoe earthquake evacuation drill is Thursday

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — On Thursday, April. 25, Incline High School students and faculty will get hands-on experience on what to do during an earthquake and the process of proper evacuation protocols.

This evacuation drill is a part of a state-wide effort to improve Nevada’s School District’s Emergency Response Plans. It will take place roughly between 9-10 a.m.

Made possible by Nevada Homeland Security Commission and Washoe County Office of Emergency Management, this ‘Schools Prepared And Ready Together Across Nevada’ (SPARTAN) grant supports these series of recovery exercises throughout northern Nevada.

The Washoe County School District is the lead agency for this exercise series that started in 2010 in an effort to launch a major upgrade in school district emergency response plans.

Some of the exercise goals for emergency responders are to focus on protecting life and property first and foremost, proper utilization of the accountability system and the multi-casualty incident (MCI) response system to name a few.

IHS students and faculty will be evacuated to the Incline Middle School.

“This evacuation exercise is a great opportunity for all involved agencies to work together and identify possible areas that have room for improvement,” said Mark Regan, assistant fire marshal for the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.

Regional partners for this exercise include NLTFPD, Washoe County Office of Emergency Management, WCSD, Washoe County School District Police, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, Washoe County Transportation, Incline Village General Improvement District and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members.
