Vaccines for life offered for Tahoe-Truckee pets

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Agate Bay Animal Hospital in Tahoe Vista has announced a new vaccine package aimed to help keep the Tahoe-Truckee pet population healthy. The “Free Vaccines for Life” program offers participating patients free vaccines for life in exchange for an enrollment process and an annual exam.

“We hope that our program will encourage owners to properly vaccinate their animals, which will help stop the spread of preventable diseases in our area. All too often we come across patients with illnesses that could have been easily prevented with the appropriate vaccination schedule,” said hospital manager Kristina Jones.

The new program was hatched as an incentive to increase owner compliance in getting local pets vaccinated. Owners often worry the cost of their pet’s annual vaccines will be too high and forego proper treatment, putting other pets in the area at risk of contracting serious, sometimes deadly, diseases. The region’s wildlife population serves as a reservoir for several diseases including distemper, leptospirosis, parvovirus, and rabies.
