You are invited to submit photos for a public art tribute honoring those who are battling cancer, cancer survivors, and remembering those we have lost to cancer. The tribute project, a visual snapshot of the Truckee-Tahoe cancer community, consists of a sturdy base with a 7 x 5-foot flat panel viewable from either side. Each photo will be backed with a colorful piece of collage paper and then decoupaged on to the flat panel surface by local artists.
Survivor photos: On the back of the photo, please print the word “survivor” and provide the first and last name of the person(s) pictured and the type of cancer. Also provide years of survivorship.
Memorial photos: On the back of the photo, please print the word “remember” and provide the first and last name of the person(s) pictured and the type of cancer. Also provide the year passed.
All submitted photos will require the following release written on the back. “I authorize the use of this photo in the Faces of Cancer Public Art project.” Please include your signature.
Photos can be color, or black and white; no larger than 5 x 7 inches. The photos should represent something meaningful to either you or your loved one. Family and friend group shots, shots with pets, activity shots, etc. are all encouraged.
The Public Art Project hopes to get as many photos as possible prior to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event scheduled for July 13, 2013 in Truckee, but also encourage you to participate in the art activity on Relay Day, noon-6 p.m. Choose the paper backing and use a variety of art materials and writing implements to add adornments, messages, and thoughts to your submitted photo(s).
Photos can be dropped off at Tom Beebe, Artistry in Wood’s Studio at 10434 River Park Place, Bldg. 2, Ste. 3, in Truckee.
The finished tribute will become a public art piece to be displayed at a number of community and business locations over the next year.
