TRUCKEE, Calif. — It’s time to get your Downtown Truckee Thursdays groove on through Aug. 29, 5-9 p.m. (No event is scheduled on July 4).
Entering its sixth year, Truckee Thursdays is a downtown summer-time must-do, offering live music, art, Foothills Farmers Market, children’s activities, a beer garden and vendors of all ilk. Attendees will find sidewalk sales and other activities hosted by downtown merchants.
Each week also showcases a different nonprofit organization, providing them an opportunity to highlight their services. Opening day featured nonprofit is Relay for Life Truckee-Tahoe. Businesses are encouraged to “Paint the Town Purple.”
“Truckee Thursdays has grown tremendously in a few short years,” said Event Manger Cheri Sprenger. “We are excited to welcome many new vendors to the event this year, along with many returning artists.” Truckee Thursdays has been voted Best Summer Event three years in a row.
“Our goal each year is to continue to improve the event and provide something new and unique,” said Julie Huck, Truckee Thursdays committee member and downtown business owner.
Newly added is the “Corner Stage,” located at the corner of Bridge and Donner Pass Roads, which will provide live entertainment ranging from music to improv. “We wanted to add some entertainment at this end of the event that people could enjoy while dining outside at Bar of America and Moody’s or while strolling the great shops and vendors,” Huck added. Additionally, find a bike valet service located at the Historic Truckee Jail on Jibboom Street, hosted by the Truckee Donner Historical Society. For a token donation to the society, docents will assist with bike parking during the event. Locals are encouraged to take advantage of this new service and ride their bikes.
Free parking starts at 5 p.m. every Truckee Thursday.
