North Tahoe fireworks shows in need of donations

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The Fourth of July is fast approaching, and donations for two of the North Shore’s Lake Tahoe fireworks shows are still needed.

The North Tahoe Business Association will host its annual fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, in Kings Beach, while the Tahoe City Downtown Association will host its show at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, in Tahoe City.

“It’s always a nail-biter,” said Steve Hoch, TCDA executive director. “We’re always working right up to the last minute to get the necessary funding for the fireworks show.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, $6,000 to $7,000 had been raised for the Tahoe City fireworks show, out of a $20,000 goal, said Hoch, adding that all funding is generated from donations and sponsorships. The money raised this year will go to fund next year’s fireworks display.

As for Kings Beach, about half of a $26,000 goal for the show and a new beach party had been raised as of Wednesday by selling sponsorships, said Joy Doyle, NTBA executive director. The beach party, which will be from 2 to 10 p.m. on July 3 outside the North Tahoe Event Center, is a fundraiser for this year’s fireworks show and will feature live music, food and contests.

“It would have a negative financial impact on the organization (NTBA), which could translate to the organization’s ability to put on fireworks in the future,” said Doyle, regarding if the funding goal is not met.
