Classes and wonderment for all at Truckee’s Kindred

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Kindred is a catalyst for all ages to come together and discover innate capabilities. Kindred’s summer sessions feature local artists sharing knowledge with the Kindred community, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Cost is $45 per day, with 20 percent off for additional family members. Create a main project, enjoy healthy snacks, outdoor activity, community garden, cooking and more. Main curriculum finishes by 3 p.m.

Featured guest artist

The Spontaneity of Song with Todd Wees (weekly class on Thursday’s included in cost): Join local singer-songwriter Todd Wees as he jumps right into song composition with an open mind and heart. No rules, no right or wrong. Just expression!

Kindred daily schedule

Wednesday, July 10: Jewelry Making with Meghan Ruiz of Stars Align: Using wire, beads, precious stones and everything in between students will create a piece sacred to them.

Wednesday, July 17: Intaglio and Monotype Prints I with Nina Ski: Learn the process and its history step by step. Design, work on etchings and print on press creating multiple versions of the design. Two-day class.*

Thursday, July 18: Intaglio and Monotype Prints II with Nina Ski : Learn the process and its history step by step. Design, work on etchings and print on press creating multiple versions of the design. Two-day class.*

Monday, July 22: Drama and Movement with Mary Bennett of Bruka Theatre: Children will develop a fantastic skill base in the performing arts. Classes instill confidence, creativity, coordination. Instruction includes speech, improvisation and drama play, movement, creating and developing scenes.

Wednesday, July 24: Candle Making with Sherry McConkey: Using wax, essential oils and other elements from nature students will learn the age-old craft of candle making.

Tuesday, Aug. 13: Mehndi/Henna Design with Meghan Ruiz of Henna Love: Since ancient times, henna art has adorned bodies for ceremonies and celebrations. Learn history, making henna and focus on traditional design.

Monday, Aug. 19: Drums, Rhythm & Culture with Laurie Martin of RythmU: Rhythm is a universal language that bridges differences of culture, race, and gender. Playing a drum or rhythm instrument in a safe and fun environment gives children a new voice to express themselves and interact.

*Includes healthy snacks, students will need to bring a water bottle and sack lunch for full day sessions.
