KINGS BEACH, Calif. — A company described as a “global leader” in consulting and program management will oversee the main portion of the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project.
In a 4-0 vote Tuesday, the Placer County Board of Supervisors OK’d a $2.39 million construction management contract for the “Core of the Core” phase to CH2M Hill, Inc.
The Colorado-based company boasts 26,000 employees and partners with clients in energy, water, environment and infrastructure to “design integrated solutions that deliver lasting value,” according to its website. It has a branch in Reno.
“We have been working on this project for many years, and with the supervisors awarding the construction management contract, we are another step closer to completion of this important work,” county Public Works Director Ken Grehm said in a statement.
Total cost for the “Core of the Core” is roughly $24 million, with construction costs estimated at $20 million, according to the county.
Bids are open for the construction contract, which Grehm said could be awarded sometime next month
Projects within “Core of the Core” include construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, bicycle lanes, intersections, public parking facilities and streetscape improvements along the 1.1-mile stretch of Highway 28 between Highway 267 and Chipmunk Street on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore.
Work is expected to begin in April 2014 and will take two construction seasons, if not three, according to previous reports.
The project and construction management services are funded through various federal, state and local sources.
An additional $10 million is needed to build elements for Phase 2 of the project, which includes various highway and drainage improvements
Completion of both phases is not expected until at least 2017.
