TRUCKEE, Calif. — In recent years, snow blowers have become prime targets of theft throughout the region, according to a recent statement from the Truckee Police Department.
In many cases, snowblowers are found, but officers cannot determine if it is stolen property due to lack of a reported serial number. Because of that, officers urge residents to label machinery with some sort of engraving, etching or stamping mark to make it easier to identify.
The department encourages residents to secure snowblowers indoors whenever possible.
If they are outside, officers suggest placing them in an area not visible to street traffic, covered-up and secured to a permanent structure. Use of cable or chain is best; most other materials can be severed.
