New Civil Air Patrol Commander at Truckee-Tahoe Airport

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Major Scott C. Kennedy of Truckee is the new Commander for the Civil Air Patrol’s Tahoe-Truckee Composite Squadron, in a Change of Command ceremony held at the Truckee-Tahoe Airport.

Major Kennedy is a mission search and rescue pilot, Truckee’s alerting officer and emergency services officer.

The Civil Air Patrol handles 90 percent of the Air Force’s inland search and rescue missions. Members are generally first on the scene transmitting digital images of damage, providing disaster relief and emergency services following natural and man-made disasters — including such phenomena as 9/11, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, as well as humanitarian missions along the U.S. and Mexican border.

When not volunteering, Major Kennedy is the broker and owner of Sierra-Tahoe Realty, a full-service Truckee real estate brokerage specializing in the sales of vacation homes to Bay Area residents.

He is a member of the Truckee Chamber of Commerce, volunteers for the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, is the past president and founder of the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County Foundation, and a past director for both the Rotary Club and Elks Lodge of San Mateo.

Major Kennedy is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and is a Vietnam-era veteran.
