Winter Film Series continues with Freddie Wilkinson

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Alpenglow Sports will present the second installment of the 2013/14 Winter Film Series with alpinist and Mountain Hardwear athlete Freddie Wilkinson, with 100 percent of raffle proceeds to benefit Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue.

Wilkinson is an adventure writer known for his original and substantive style. On Thursday, Dec. 5 he will share his tale “Mountain/Story,” which focuses on the 2008 K2 tragedy. The New England native’s in-depth reporting shifted public perception by telling the story from the climbing Sherpas viewpoint.

Wilkinson, known for his infectious energy and original lines of ascent, will talk of Khumbu Himal tea houses, obscure glaciers of the Alaska Range, and storm-lashed Patagonian spires.

Wilkinson believes any mountain adventure is only as valuable as the stories taken home. His innate curiosity and drive to explore the mountain world fuels his cutting-edge ascents and historical investigations of the human element behind every mountain story, old and new.

With intimate book readings and jaw-dropping mountain cinematography, “Mountain/Story” weaves tales of Wilkinson’s own exploits with those who have inspired him. The result is Wilkinson’s thought-provoking and original perspective on the freedom of the hills.

The show is free, designed to motivate, inspire, and educate. Prizes from Mountain Hardwear, Julbo, La Sportiva, Petzl and Clif Bar will be raffled.

Arrive early for drink specials and good seating. The show begins at 7 p.m. at Olympic Village Lodge in Squaw Valley.

Alpenglow Sports is located at 415 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City.
