Truckee High talent brings house down

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Students wowed the almost full-house crowd at Truckee High School auditorium with stellar vocal, musical and entertaining talents at the annual talent show.

Judges, who were made up of a panel of eight — four teachers and four students — had a difficult task in selecting the winners.

In fact two acts came in second equal; Eli Yale and his electrifying performance of Poi. Poi is a skill using a pair of translucent LED lit pods, each one attached to an arm’s length rope, which Eli expertly made dance before our eyes, with amazing poi trails to complex strobing to gorgeous mood lighting effects. Joint second place winner, Mr. T-Town (Virginia Johnson) held the audience spellbound by a titillating hula-hooping performance while moving to the music of Breezelocks by Alt. Virginia captured the audience with her graceful, agile and colorful show, taking advantage of the effects of an LED lit hula-hoop. Both second place acts incorporated blackout conditions on the stage to make their performances even more impactful. First place went to Colin Deurlington for an outstanding and moving performance of Deux Arabesque, by Claude Debussy on piano, while blindfolded. His emotional performance almost brought the house down!
