Truckee softball | Warriors win both ends of twin bill

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — There were no surprises in a matchup between Whittell’s veteran team and Truckee’s squad of underclassmen.

The Warriors swept the Wolverines 16-1 and 22-3 at Whittell on Saturday. The Warriors’ defense was sharp behind starting pitcher Amanda Harris, and the offense took care of the rest.

In Game 1, Harris was nearly unhittable. She opened the game with an 11-pitch first inning to retire the side.

“Amanda was really strong. She came out and threw the simple pitches and she did what she needed to do to get it done,” catcher Emily Harris said. “She was just throwing hard today, and they couldn’t catch up.”

Amanda Harris struck out seven, walked one and limited Truckee to one hit and one run in four innings of work.

Whittell’s Gianna Miller broke open the game with a leadoff single, and Brianna Brewer blasted her home. Amanda Harris came home on an error, and the Warriors took a 2-0 lead.

The young Truckee team hung in for two innings, briefly making the score 2-1 in the top of the second.

Truckee’s sophomore pitcher Sylvia Soto contained the Warriors’ powerful lineup to another two in the second inning, but by the third inning the game was out of hand.

Katie Fisher produced Truckee’s lone hit, a leadoff single to open the second inning. Diana Rosas hit Fisher home on a groundout to short.

Soto pitched a complete game for the Wolverines. The sophomore right-hander was throwing accurately, but the Warriors’ bats were making Truckee’s defense work.

The Warriors added six runs in the third and another six runs in the fourth.

Whittell freshman Kelsey Kjer took the mound in the final inning and retired the side looking.

Game 2 looked similar to Game 1. Again Amanda Harris and Soto faced off on the mound, and again the Warriors’ bats put the pressure on Truckee’s defense.

Truckee put up three runs in the third inning when Soto raked a three-run double.
