Obituary:Jane Fiedler

Jane Fiedler grew up in New Jersey. She met her husband, William Fiedler, after World War II at Rutgers University. They moved to Berkeley, California in 1948 and enrolled in graduate work at U.C. Berkeley. Jane received a masters degree in English Literature and her teaching credential from U.C. Berkeley. She was an accomplished artist, an author and the proud mother of four children.

Jane and Bill moved to Squaw Valley in 1965, where they raised their children and enjoyed the mountains and the Squaw Valley community. Jane also maintained contact with her roots on the East Coast and spent many summers with her family at the Jersey shore and the Delaware River.

For many years Jane and Bill also maintained an apartment on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco, which allowed Jane to study printmaking with the Fort Mason Printmakers. She was often joined at her classes by Bill, who watched her progress, socialized with the other artists, and took care of their beloved dog, Ripper.

In 2000, Jane moved to Aptos, Calif., where she enjoyed gardening, walking her dog on the beach, and the company of her children and their families. Several years ago she moved to a home in the Cupertino hills where she continued to make good friends and to amaze everyone with her well-timed quips, her knowledge of old movies and music, and her artistic gifts.

Her favorite activity was reading and she would spend many hours engrossed in books.

Jane passed away peacefully at home with her daughter, Jo, at her bedside. She was a loving and supportive mother and a witty friend with a ready smile until the end.

Services will be held at The Squaw Valley Chapel, Friday, May 31 at 4 p. m.
