John Robert “Bob” Anderson passed away peacefully on July 20, surrounded by his wife and loved ones. Bob and his wife, Carole, moved to Incline Village in 1995 and immediately became active members of the community.
While attending Stanford University to obtain his MBA, Bob developed an affinity for the Lake Tahoe area and planned, even in those early years, to one day make the area his home.
Bob was on the boards of the Desert Research Institute, The Nature Conservancy, and the Sierra Nevada College, and was an enthusiastic and generous supporter of many other Northern Nevada organizations, including the Parasol Community Foundation, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Western Folklife Center in Elko, and the Nevada Museum of Art.
Before moving west, Bob retired from a distinguished corporate career including Executive Vice President of Ford Motor Company; President of Ford Land Development Company; Vice Chairman & CFO of Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.; and Vice Chairman & CEO of Grumman Corporation and he served on the boards of a number of other public corporations.
He was a long time member and board Vice Chairman of the venerable National Planning Association (Washington, DC), which has its roots as developer of the Marshall Plan.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy and Ralph, and his son, Douglas. He is survived by his wife, Carole; his brothers Gary and Steven; children Robyn Anderson, Dana Behlmer (Rich), Judy Anderson and Christine Shoaf (Jimmy); grandchildren Bjorn Talbot, Emma Shoaf and Kaelin Behlmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Incline Village on Friday, August 2 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Bob’s name to the Truckee River Project of the Nevada Nature Conservancy, 1 East First St., Suite 1007, Reno, NV 89501 (phone 775-322-4990).
