Obituary: Norman Irving Ginsberg

Norman Irving Ginsberg, 80, of Truckee, California, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his home in Tahoe Donner.

Born in Los Angeles, to Louis and Genevieve, he attended Los Angeles High School, UCLA, and UCSF School of Pharmacy. After college, he married Louise Painter in 1956. After service with the Army in Washington State, he brought his family to Marin County where they lived in Fairfax and then built their home in San Anselmo. Norm and Louise have lived in Truckee for the past sixteen years.

Norm enjoyed all types of outdoor activities including skiing, golfing, boating, and water-skiing. He lived a full social life with family and good friends. Norm could often be found on the slopes of Sugar Bowl or walking the golf course at Tahoe Donner. He was active in the Tahoe Donner Senior Ski Club, Tahoe Donner Men’s Golf Club, and the Sunrise Rotary Club of Truckee. Norm also enjoyed working as a Pharmacist at the Tahoe Forest Hospital Pharmacy.

Prior to moving to Truckee in 1997, Norm owned and operated Bank Pharmacy in Fairfax, California for many years. While in Marin, he was a past president of the Ross Valley Rotary, active in the Marin Ski Club, and served as an advisory professor for the UCSF School of Pharmacy.

Norm is survived by his wife Louise, his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Joe Mello, and his son Mike Ginsberg, all living in Truckee. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyle Mello of Truckee, Jessica and Nathan Nelms of Reno, along with two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Tarrin Nelms. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Friedman.

Norm will be missed by all that experienced his witty humor and infectious personality. There will be a Celebration of Life in Norm’s honor at the Lake Mary Cabin at Sugar Bowl on Sunday, September 29th at 1pm.
