Obituary: Ava B. Glenn

Ava B. Glenn of Dorris, CA, passed away on October 3rd, 2013, after an eight year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years Wilbur L. Glenn Sr.

Ava is survived by her son Russell Glenn and grandson Matthew Glenn (wife Leticia) of Yuma, AZ, son Wilbur L Glenn Jr of Dorris, CA (where he was her sole caretaker for the last two years) and son Charles Glenn (partner Marshall Stockton) of Santa Rosa, CA. She is also survived by sisters Mary Taylor (husband Bud) of Willows, CA and Elaine Bradshaw (husband Jim) of Fort Smith AR, brothers Chester Love (wife Betty) and Willie Love (wife Becky) of Willows, CA and sister in law Rita Love of Sacramento, CA. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ava worked at Tahoe-Truckee High School in Truckee, CA from 1958 until 1984. She initially worked in the cafeteria and then became manager of the newly created snack bar. She eventually obtained a special teaching credential form the state of California and taught students all the mechanics of operating a snack bar. She also substituted as the Home Economics instructor whenever necessary.

Ava became the confidant and second mother for many of the students. She was so beloved by them that at one point was named Grand Marshall of their homecoming parade. She was so well liked that many students would visit she and Wilbur Sr. at home.

She became very active in the civic life of her new home Dorris, CA. She was the driving force behind getting a new public library built.

Ava discovered her creative talents after the graduation of her sons. She became an expert cake maker, designed and created most of her wardrobe, learned pottery and the painting and use of ceramics. She also made several beautiful quilts.

Ava made a difference in so many peoples lives. Her love, warmth and energy will be forever missed.

At her request, no services will be held.
