North Tahoe baseball | Lakers split two vs. Yerington

TAHOE VISTA — The North Tahoe baseball team split its Division III doubleheader against visiting Yerington on Monday, bouncing back from a 3-0 loss with a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

Senior hurler Shane Christian earned the win in Game 2 as he fanned nine hitters in a complete-game effort.

“This is the first time we’ve beaten Yerington during a season game. It’s my senior year. I threw more than a few pitches, but I still had a few left,” Christian said. “I wanted to pitch for the win and I knew I had it.”

North Tahoe drew first blood with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior shortstop Wildon DesLauriers reached on an error that sent him all the way to third base, then scored after a wild pitch on a close play at the plate.

The Lakes added to their lead with a two-run third, as senior third baseman Alex Bourriague scored DesLauriers on a suicide squeeze play that also went for a base hit, and Miles Johansen scored Christian on a sacrifice fly.

Yerington cut into the lead with a run in the fourth, then added another in the fifth after Christian singled home Trent Linguen in the bottom of the fourth.

Bourriague, who went 3-for-3 all with bunts, made a couple of nice plays at third, including the catch of a hot-shot line drive that prevented a run in the fourth, while Johansen played a clean defensive game at first base.

The Lions, at 3-3 in league play, dealt the Lakers (5-1) their first league loss in the opener.

DesLauriers started for North Tahoe and carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Yerington put a three-spot on the board in the sixth, however, and North Tahoe could not answer in its final two at-bats.
