It was only a matter of time before the Truckee softball team broke into the win column.
The ever-improving Wolverines picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion at Sparks (3-8) on Tuesday, rallying for seven runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to earn an 11-3 victory.
“Everyone put the ball in play, ran the bases aggressively, communicated, executed, rallied and finished strong,” said Truckee coach Chris Simpson. “It all came together. Solid performance.”
Truckee starter Cheyenne Brown held the Railroaders to just three hits in the contest while her defense played solidly behind her, Simpson said — Taylor Stevens at first, Adela Ortiz at second, Tori Simpson at short, Lauren Peak at third, Alejandra Venegas in left, Sylvia Soto in center, Katie Fisher at catcher and Diana Rosas.
Simpson said Claire Roberts and Emily Houghton delivered crucial hits.
The Railroaders threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but Brown limited the damage to one run as Truckee players celebrated their win.
“We have talked about finishing strong all season,” Simpson said.
The Wolverines are scheduled to host a league series against Dayton on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday at 2 and 4 p.m. They’ll also host a makeup series against South Tahoe on Monday (3 p.m.) and Wednesday (2, 4 p.m.), and another league series against Fernley on May 9-10.
