North Tahoe track | McDermott, Gallant top contenders at Damonte Ranch Invite

The North Tahoe track and field team held its own against mostly Division I programs in the Damonte Ranch Invite in Reno this past Saturday.

A total of eight schools competed, with six Division I schools and two from the Division III-IV — North Tahoe and Sage Ridge.

While the Lakers did not have the numbers to contend in the team scoring, several individuals recorded solid results against the large schools, most notably, distance runners Noah McDermott and Tara Gallant.

McDermott, a senior, finished second in the 3,200-meter run (2-mile), posting a time of 10:29.6 to Galena winner Mason Labadie’s 10:28.0. Caesar Garduno of Galena was third more than 20 seconds back, in 10:53.9.

Gallant, a sophomore, also finished second in the girls’ 3,200 with a time of 13:13.1. Cindy Juchtzer of Carson won the race in 12:54.3.

In addition to their runner-up finishes in the 3,200, McDermott placed sixth in the 1,600 (1-mile) with a time of 4:52.2, and Gallant finished fifth in the 1,600 in 5:52.3.

The Lakers were well represented in the girls 3,200, as freshman Sophia Tallarigo was sixth in 14:27.3, freshman Kaya Williams was seventh in 15:15.2 and sophomore Ingrid Roske was eighth in 16:13.8. Freshman Cam Coldstone was sixth in the boys 3,200 in 11:27.9.

A number of other Lakers returned with top-10 finishes, including Angela Wood with a sixth place in the shot put, with a heave of 27 feet, 1 inch, and Allie Doyle with a seventh-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 4 inches. Hailey Perkins was ninth in the high jump, at the same height, and Roske was 10th in the triple jump, at 24-8.25 feet.

Sean McDermott was eighth in the boys high jump, at 5.4 feet, and ninth in the 300 hurdles, with a time of 45.8, and Maddie Cleeland was ninth in the girls 300 hurdles in 63.6.

Zoe Anderson finished eighth in the 200 in a time of 73.5, and Doyle was 10th in the 100 in 13.7.

North Tahoe’s relay teams also fared well in the meet. The boys 4x100 (Sean McDermott, Brandon Hackett, Brandon Hayakawa and Alexander Steele) was sixth in a time of 50.2, and the 4x400 (Andy Morgan, Coldstone, Hacket and Sean McDermott) was eighth in 4:08.3.

The girls 4x200 (Bridget Schroepfer, Allison Wright, Sara Trimm and Doyle) was sixth in 2:00.8, and the 4x400 relay (Perkins, Cleeland, Brittany Holmes and Anderson) was fifth in 4:56.7.
