Incline baseball, softball | Highlanders tangle with Ruby Mountain League

The Incline baseball team split its two crossover games against the Ruby Mountain League this past weekend, losing 6-0 to Battle Mountain on Friday before beating White Pine 10-2 the following day.

The Highlanders (6-6-1) scored all 10 runs in the first two innings against White Pine en route to the lopsided win.

Jack Clouthier went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Cam Powell was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Tommy Thompson, Masxsimo Battel, Kenny Savelieff and Kris Dirga each had one hit, with Battel contributing two RBIs and Powell and Thompson driving in one run apiece.

Clouthier started on the mound and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Powell pitched a scoreless inning in relief, recording two strikeouts.

Incline managed only one hit in five innings against Battle Mountain — a single by Battel.

Sophomore Tommy Dolan started and gave up three runs on two hits and five walks in three innings, striking out six along the way. Battel allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in one inning.

The crossover tournament games were limited to five innings. Ruby Mountain League member West Wendover did not participate, as the Wolverines do not have a baseball program this year.

The Highlanders are scheduled to play a Mount Rose League doubleheader at South Tahoe on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

INCLINE SOFTBALL COMES UP SHORT

Incline’s softball team, meanwhile, lost three games against the Ruby Mountain schools, 5-3 to West Wendover, 6-4 to Battle Mountain and 9-0 to White Pine.

The Highlanders (3-7) managed five hits against West Wendover, with Sarah Wright, Briana Barraza, Katie Orlady, Caroline May and Molly Franklin each delivering one apiece. Barraza, Elise Nelson and Franklin each had an RBI, while Orlady and Nelson had doubles.

Nelson pitched all five innings, recording four strikeouts.

Incline banged out 12 hits against Battle Mountain. Maddie Findlen led the way with a 3-for-3 game with an RBI. Orlady had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and May had two hits. Kortney Solis, Wright, Barraza and Franklin each had one hit.

Wright pitched the whole game for Incline, while Jade Harkness pitched and earned the win for the Longhorns.

Incline played White Pine closely until the fourth inning, when the Bobcats exploded for seven runs to extend their 2-0 lead to 9-0.

Alli Huntington started for White Pine and limited the Highlanders to four while striking out four and walking three.

Findlen had two hits, including a double, and Wright and Orlady each had one.

The Highlanders are scheduled to host a Mount Rose League doubleheader against South Tahoe on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
