Village Notes: What’s happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE — Well a brief return to winter this week but it did not last long and hopefully it did not eliminate all of my flowers just getting ready to bloom. Thanks Mother Nature for that refreshing blast and of course we can plan on one for sure again in May.

Earth Day is next week and we have lots of activities and festivals around the area with Earth Day Celebrations.

Everyone is invited to support Project MANA on Thursday, April 25. The Mark E. Smith Foundation is offering to match the first $4,000 raised at a fundraiser at Le Bistro. The cost is $125 per person and includes a four-course dinner, donation, tax, tip and coffee. To make a reservation, email Tom at tlahe@lahey.com no later than noon on Wednesday, April 24. If you cannot attend the fundraiser donations can be mailed to Mark E. Smith Foundation at PO Box 4049, Incline Village, NV 89450-4049. Help support Project MANA in our community.

Next week attend Tahoe SAFE Alliance’s Vagina Monologues. Tickets are on sale by calling 775-298-0010. The shows on April 26 and 27 will be at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

Another event that is almost sold out is the Tahoe Family Solutions annual Surf and Turf dinner at Big Water Grille on Tuesday, May 7. Limited seating is available. Make reservations today at 775-298-0004.

The Incline Village/Crystal Bay Republican Women will be hosting some of America’s Greatest First Ladies for lunch on Tuesday, May 14 at The Chateau. The cost is $25 per person to attend the luncheon and First Ladies Fashion Show. Reservations no later than Thursday, May 9 by email to patty@inclinesoftworks.com or call Millie at 775-831-4596. This is sure to be lots of fun.

Congratulations to Captain Evan Kirkwood. He has been nominated for the 2012 Outstanding AMC Flying Instructor of the Year Award to represent the Air National Guard. He will now compete in the Navigator Category at Headquarters AMC. Kirkwood attended Incline High School, is the son of Marilyn Kirkwood Berliner and Art Berliner and has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks for your service Captain Kirkwood.

Birthdays to celebrate this week: Doris Spain on April 19; Ed Gurowitz, Al Jurkonis and Betts Markle on April 20; Charlie Zendner on April 21; Tim Callicrate on April 23; and Shahri Masters on April 24. Happy birthday!

The best deal or steal in the village this week is at Leniki Boutique located in the Christmas Tree Village Shopping Center. Check out the huge sale, as Leniki prepares for spring and summer deliveries.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
