A young girl who was allegedly assaulted while riding her bike on Plateau Circle April 13 has admitted she made up the attack after being embarrassed because she was the slowest in a group of bicyclists. The 9-year-old girl for forgiveness and promised to have the courage to tell the truth in a letter she gave to the Tribune.
“I was embarrassed, so when the others came back for me, I lied,” she wrote in the letter. “I didn’t really get choked. There is no excuse for what I did. I know I wasted the sheriff’s time and scared my community, and I am very sorry. Probably a lot of kids didn’t get to play outside because of my lie. I hope you will all forgive me.”
