Truckee football | Wolverines raising funds for new training equipment

Truckee weather has not been kind to the Wolverines’ football equipment over the years.

Josh Ivens, a former Truckee player and longtime assistant who was named head coach March 29, in the wake of Bob Shaffer’s retirement, is seeking a solution to that.

Ivens has launched a fundraising campaign to raise money for a couple of new training sleds, which should have been replaced years ago, he said, as well as a new storage space to protect the equipment from the elements.

In a letter posted to the Truckee football Facebook page, Ivens said the football program is trying to raise $9,500 to purchase a new two-man and five-man sled, as well as the storage space and other equipment and uniforms.

“We will be going through Rogers Athletic Co. to purchase modern sleds that will allow our kids to train at a high level and compete at the top levels of Nevada high school football,” Ivens wrote. “Our youth football teams also use these sleds. There will be close to 200 Truckee football players a year (who) will benefit from this upgrade.”

The fundraising campaign offers three packages for purchase — platinum, for $1,000, gold, for $500, and silver, for $250. Each package includes select benefits for the donor. Check out the Truckee football Facebook page for more details.

Ivens also plans to launch a new website this fall, Truckeepride.com.

“This is a website that allows past, present and future Wolverines and Wolverine supporters to dig into Truckee’s past. Visitors will be able to review stats, look up old teammates, or simply catch up on the glory days,” he wrote. “… Whether you lived in Truckee for a short period of time or whether you were born and raised here, the small town of Truckee has always had something to it that is hard to find anywhere else. One thing is certain: The town of Truckee gets behind its football team. We are very thankful for all of the continued support from our small town.”
