North Tahoe soccer | Girls continue torrid start

TAHOE CITY —The shutout streak continues.

After another pair of shutout victories, the North Tahoe girls soccer team has outscored its opposition 34-0 through its first four games.

The Lakers, who defeated Pershing County and Battle Mountain by a combined score of 19-0 last week, skunked White Pine 4-0 on Friday and West Wendover 10-0 on Saturday.

North Tahoe was scheduled to host Whittell on Tuesday in what was expected to be its first test of the young season, but that game ended too late for publication.

On Friday, Emily Pieper scored two goals while Julia Semmens had a goal and three assists, and Sara Trimm had one goal.

“It was a hard-fought game and the girls played very well,” said North Tahoe coach Kristin Carlson. “The team utilized many of the skills that they had been working on in practice.”

Carlson said she was particularly impressed with the play of Pieper, Semmens, Kasey Foster and Bozhie Pokorny.

Saturday’s win was a soggy one, as the skies opened up to periods of heavy rain just in time for the game, which was delayed an hour as the Lakers, their fans and the officials awaited West Wendover’s arrival.

The visitors’ bus finally appeared to the cheers of North Tahoe players, and the Lakers went straight to work on their mushy field.

By half, they took a casual 5-0 lead. They added another five in the second.

Bryn Anderson scored a hat trick (three goals), her second of the season, while Semmens and Haley Perkins each scored two goals, and Valencia Covell and Francesca English added one apiece.

The girls are now 4-0 in league and overall.

Boys earn draw, win

After playing visiting White Pine to a 0-0 tie on Friday, the Laker boys defeated West Wendover 9-0 on Saturday.

José Chávez scored three goals to lead the way.

Adrian Ortega and Chase Whitney finished with two goals apiece, and Garrett Driller and Lucas Earley scored one each.

Both North Tahoe teams are scheduled to play at Yerington on Friday and host Truckee on Monday.
