North Tahoe cross-country | McDermott wins again at large Folsom meet

Noah McDermott has done nothing but win this season.

The North Tahoe senior added to his list with yet another first-place finish this past Saturday, this time in a field of 211 varsity runners at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational in Folsom. The meet featured dozens of schools from Reno to Redding to Visalia (Calif.).

McDermott had his work cut out for him. In the end he outdistanced runner-up Ajaypal Singh of Will C. Wood High School, posting a time of 16:13.75 over the 5-kilometer course to Singh’s 16:18.94. Moses Wolfe-Polgar of Del Oro was third in 16:23.09.

As a testament to the depth of the field, North Tahoe’s second- and third-place finishers, Shane Christian and Peter Holmes — normally top-10 finishers — placed 23rd and 36th, respectively, in times of 17:40.20 and 18:07.22. Brandon Hackett was 43rd in 18:19.61 and Julien Bordes 47th in 18:22.07 to round out the Laker boys’ top five scores.

That was good enough for third place out of the 23 teams in the small-school division, with 132 points. Placer won with 53 points and Del Oro was second with 73.

North Tahoe junior Tara Gallant, meanwhile, finished 42nd in the varsity girls race in a field of 154 runners, posting a time of 22:37.33. Grace Schoenhoff of Placer won in 19:37.77. The Lakers’ Ingrid Roske was 89th in 25:13.46.

In the fosh/soph girls race, North Tahoe’s Quinn Lehmkuhl and Sophia Tallarigo finished first and second in times of 13:33.09 and 13:56.07, respectively. Jackson Shaw was 12th in sophomore boys race, in 12:41.70, while Kobe Hudson was 26th and Will Kirk 27th. Carson Gracey was 22nd in the freshman boys small-school race, and Dominic Antonucci was 53rd in junior boys race.

The Lakers have competed in some large meets this season. But none compare to their next stop, the 66th Annual Mt. SAC Invitational in Southern California. The two-day meet, which will feature nearly 25,000 runners and 113 races, takes place Friday and Saturday.
