Truckee Pop Warner | Red Mitey-Mites fight hard against Senators

After playing a majority of their games in tough climatic conditions, the Truckee Red Mitey-Mites were happy to play on a beautiful fall day in Carson City this past Saturday. Unfortunately, the outcome of the game was not as nice as the weather.

Truckee won the coin toss and chose to take the ball. Damon Parisi took the opening kickoff and returned it to the Truckee 35-yard line. Truckee moved the ball to the Carson 30 on a run by Colton Conklin through a big hole on the right side of the line. The hole was provided by excellent blocking by offensive linemen Aidan Anderson, Sean McMullen, Aidan Powers and Jace Borden.

Two plays later Parisi ran around the left end taking the ball down to the 10-yard line. Parisi’s run was courtesy of fine blocking from Tait Nicholas and Ricci Espinoza. After a penalty on the offense, the drive ended with Truckee turning over the ball on downs at the Carson 6.

Despite excellent defensive line play by Jason Roth and Espinoza, the Senators were able to move the ball steadily down the field and scored to make it 7-0 halfway through the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff Brandon Phillips took the ball and returned it 15 yards to the Truckee 45.

Truckee was able to move the ball again on offense behind tough running by Roth, Conklin and Parisi. The offensive line again did a good job moving the Carson defenders off the line. Juan Arroyo came in to spell Anderson on the Truckee line and did an excellent job keeping the defenders controlled on the offensive line. After a short pass by Ezra Scharp to Parisi the Truckee offense was again stop short and they turned the ball over on downs.

Truckee’s defense played tough with nice tackling by mirror backer Galdino Bravo-Karvonen, defensive end McMullen, outside linebacker Conklin and outside linebacker Jake Solberg. Unfortunately, they couldn’t stop Carson from getting first downs and after a 15-play drive, Carson scored again to make the score 14-0 just before the half. Truckee got the ball again and was able to move the ball to the Carson 35 before the half ended.

The second half started with Truckee kicking off to Carson. But, after Colton Conklin recovered his own onside kick, Truckee had the ball at the Carson 48-yard line.

After some tough running by Parisi, Truckee had the ball at the Carson 25. But on the next play Truckee turned the ball back to the Senators on a fumble. Carson then started another long drive starting on their own 26. The Truckee defense again had good play from defensive lineman Christopher Luna and defensive cornerback Casey Slusher and kept the Senators from making any big plays. But, after a 16-play drive the Senators scored in the fourth quarter to make the score 20-0.

The Truckee Red Mitey-Mites end the regular season Saturday in Fallon.
