Truckee basketball | Boys fall short at Division I Reno

Truckee boys basketball coach Sky Nelson preferred not to remember the final score of the Wolverines’ nonleague loss at Division I Reno on Saturday.

“It wasn’t close,” said Nelson, who was missing several key players over the holiday break. “I think it was 60-something to 20-something.”

It was 66-22, to be exact. Despite the lopsided margin, however, the Wolverines took away some positives against the larger, more physical Huskies.

“They were just too physical for us. They’re a couple of notches above us. But some of our guys did well,” Nelson said. “We started to get a certain sense of toughness as the game went on.

“If we played them later in the year I think we’d do better. But I’m not sure we’d beat them.”

Truckee sophomore Jenner Tresan played particularly well, Nelson said, finishing with nine points.

“He took over the guard position well and played a heady game,” Nelson said, adding that Tresan did not turn the ball over once, despite heavy pressure by the Huskies. “I give credit to all our kids.”

The Wolverines will host a Division I-A game against Fallon on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Truckee is 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play, with losses at South Tahoe and Sparks.
