South Lake Tahoe apartment complex fire causes $250,000 in damage

An investigation is underway after a structure fire damaged six units at 2012 10th St. in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the fire around 1 p.m., and was able to extinguish the blaze in about an hour.

There were no casualties, but SLTFR estimated $250,000 in damages from the fire.

“The unit where the fire started is uninhabitable, upper units received some water and heat damage as the fire spread up to the second floor by lapping up the outside of the structure,” SLTFR wrote on its Facebook page.

The Red Cross is helping the displaced resident find temporary housing.

“We are thankful the fire occurred during daylight hours, if the fire occurred at night it could have been devastating,” wrote SLTFR.

“Night time fires are often called in later due to lack of awake reporting parties and it’s likely that occupants would have been asleep in all six units creating a significant life hazard.”

More information on the cause of the fire will be provided as it becomes available.
