Annual parking passes for sale

South Lake Tahoe area residents can buy an annual pass to park in city-designated residential permit areas as well as areas where paid parking kiosks are installed.

The new passes are one of several changes South Lake Tahoe City Council made to its paid parking program in February.

They are being offered for sale to full-time residents in zip codes 96150-96158 in California and to full-time residents in zip codes 89448 and 89449 in Nevada.

Passes are valid only Monday through Friday and for calendar year 2014, expiring on Dec. 31. The cost of a pass is $40.

The pass does not apply to the Heavenly Village parking garage and does not guarantee a parking spot.

South Lake Tahoe’s paid parking program could potentially expire before the annual passes, but the program will be in place at least through most of the summer.

Also in February, City Council approved a June 3 ballot measure that asks voters to repeal or uphold the paid parking program everywhere except at Bellamy Court and Transit Way.

If the repeal is approved, the change would take effect August 31, 2014. No refunds for annual parking passes will be issued if the paid parking program is changed or terminated, the city said this week in a press release.

Other changes City Council approved for this summer include a drop in fines from $55 to $35, reduced paid parking kiosk hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the elimination of paid parking kiosks on Venice Drive and Paradise Avenue.

Passes are now available for purchase from code enforcement officers at several locations. They include: City Administration Offices, 1901 Airport Road; City Services Center, 1052 Tata Lane; Recreation Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.; and South Lake Tahoe Police Department, 1352 Johnson Blvd.
