San Diego hip-hop and electronic act Vokab Kompany plays a pair of shows at the South Shore this weekend.
The first takes place at Tep’s Villa Roma in South Lake Tahoe Friday, where the band will perform with San Luis Obispo electronic act TROPO.
Vokab Kompany then moves to Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, where they play a free show at 2 p.m. Saturday with San Francisco’s the Soft White Sixties.
Vokab Kompany consists of South Tahoe High School graduate Robbie Gallo and fellow MC Matt Burke, as well as a four-piece band.
“Their live show combines multiple synths/keys with bass/drums to create a sound that doesn’t quite adhere to a specific genre,” according to Sierra’s event listing. “Matt Burke describes their latest album, VKCE: ‘As musicians, it’s an ever evolving world; genres are a thing of the past, so we (VK) were really lucky to have teamed up with producers that pushed the boundaries of our boxes. We got outside our comfort zone, stamped a VK next to CE, and the result was something new entirely.’”
The Soft White Sixties play Sierra following a performance at SXSW.
“Octavio Genera (vocals), Aaron Eisenberg (guitar/keys), Ryan Noble (bass), and Joey Bustos (drums) combine soulful melodies, deep grooves, and fuzzed-out hooks to form a completely distinct sound,” according to the event listing.
