Nevada District 39 Assemblyman Jim Wheeler was released from Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on Monday after he underwent heart surgery on Saturday.
“On my way home now,” he reported on his Twitter feed around lunchtime. “Roto Rooter worked great. Feel like I’m 30 years old again.”
According to his campaign, Wheeler, a Fish Springs resident, awoke with chest pains on Saturday morning.
He underwent angioplasty and had two stents implanted to open partially blocked arteries. Cardiologist Dr. Nathan Ho said there didn’t appear to be any damage to Wheeler’s heart and indicated that the assemblyman should be back to his normal schedule in about a week, according to his campaign manager Steve Donahue.
Ho said that members of his Carson-Tahoe Cardiology Group will determine whether Wheeler will be released Sunday or early Monday.
Reports circulated earlier in the day that Wheeler had suffered a life-threatening heart attack proved to be inaccurate.
Wheeler thanked Ho and the hospital cardiac-catheterization staff.
