The Academy of Dance Arts will celebrate 20 years with performances at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa’s Theatre this weekend.
The performances will feature songs from popular movies and a selection of greatest hits from the academy’s history.
“Last year the theme for the ballet was ‘The Soundtracks of Our Lives,’” said Kelly O’Fallon, owner and director of The Academy of Dance Arts, in a press release. “Dances were choreographed to dozens of songs from a variety of different movies. It was such a hit, we decided to continue the trend with ‘Soundtracks: Volume 2.’ Once again, much of the music is jazzy and upbeat; using music from such movies as ‘Rio,’ ‘Armageddon,’ and Country Strong.”
After an intermission the show continues with jazz, hip hop, lyrical and tap entitled “A Walk Down Memory Lane.”
“For the 10th anniversary of the studio, we picked favorite dances from the first 10 years and taught them to the new generation of dancers coming up in the studio.” O’Fallon said. “We tried to stay true to the original choreography. Now for the 20th, we have added a twist. There are songs throughout the show that have been used in the last 20 years, but only the song is the same.
“My teachers have picked some songs that they danced to when they were young and completely created new pieces of choreography that are absolutely beautiful and all their own,” O’Fallon continued. “Add to that a variety of new pop and indie music, and there is a little something for everyone.”
