Ask around the Summer Carnival at Mont Bleu Resort Casino & Spa and you’ll find just about everyone has a favorite attraction.
For instance, Ava Etchell, 8, said her favorite ride is Vertigo, an attraction that swings people around on chairs several feet off the ground.
Her mother, on the other hand, prefers something a little more stationary.
“Mommy likes the curly fries,” said Ava’s mother, Onawa Corry.
The Summer Carnival started June 4 in the casino’s parking lot and continues this weekend, with the last day being Sunday.
At night, the carnival lights up and visitors start to fill in the rides. But on Friday afternoon, Corry and Ava almost had the entire park to themselves.
“We love coming every year,” said Corry, a South Shore local. “There’s no way I can’t bring her here when she sees it going up.”
This year’s carnival offers 17 rides, including Zendar, Sizzler, Big Pink Slide, Dragon Wagon, Dive Bomber, Century Wheel, Dizzy Dragon, Drop Zone and a new Zipper.
It also has a variety of popular sugar- and fat-filled foods.
“All the evil necessities of having a night out at the carnival,” said carnival owner Pat Davis.
As of Friday, Davis said the event had received a good turnout before hitting weekend crowds. The carnival also seemed to attract a good mix of tourists and locals.
“I think the locals come because there’s not much like this coming this way,” he said.
Don Beebe, of San Jose, was enjoying the festivities with his family Friday. He was watching an artist draw a characterization of his great-grand-daughter, Audrey Tollison.
“We came out for a little vacation and gambling,” he said. “We saw the carnival and thought we’d join the fun.”
The carnival will run from 11 a.m. to midnight today and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. There is no entrance fee, but unlimited-ride armbands cost $24.
