Founding members of the Yardbirds will lead the influential 1960s group into the Harrah’s Lake Tahoe South Shore Room Friday.
“An integral part of the ‘60s British Blues Boom, The Yardbirds crafted such famed hits as ‘For Your Love,’ ‘Heart Full Of Soul,’ and “Train Kept Rollin,’” said the group’s publicist, Carol Kaye, in an email. “Recently celebrating their 50-year anniversary, the band that introduced guitar gods Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck have welcomed the return of original member Top Topham – their first lead guitarist. Continuing the band’s legacy of nourishing dynamic musicians, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee/founding member/drummer Jim McCarty added young guns Ben King (guitarist), David Smale (bassist), and Andy Mitchell (lead vocals) to join the fray. These ace musicians have been a part of The Yardbirds fabric for the past few years.”
McCarty called on Topham to join the band after health concerns caused founding member Chris Dreja to leave the reunited group ahead of its 50th anniversary tour, according to a July article in Vintage Guitar magazine.
The Yardbirds released a live album entitled “Making Tracks” in October to celebrate their anniversary. The album chronicles the Yardbirds’ tours in 2010 and 2011 and includes many of the songs that made the group famous.
