A 29-year-old woman who got lost off-trail and injured her leg east of Jake’s Peak, several miles from Emerald Bay Road and Eagle Falls trailhead, was rescued early Monday morning.
The incident was reported to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Volunteers with El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue hiked into the forest and located the woman. Their hike consisted of cross country-navigation through thick vegetation and travel over rock bound cliffs and up steep mountain sides in full darkness, according to a sheriff’s office spokesman.
The woman was located and assessed and provided first aid. She appeared to have a lower leg fracture. A helicopter extraction was requested because carrying her out by hand would have been too risky.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Air Operations sent the helicopter “Raven,” which extricated the woman shortly after midnight Monday and took her to Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment.
