Hawaiian-born singer and songwriter Bruno Mars brings his “Moonshine Jungle” tour through Lake Tahoe’s South Shore this week.
The tour launched in June 2013 and has included more than 100 shows to date.
A review of Tuesday’s performance in Calgary drew comparisons between the singer, whose singles include “Just the Way You Are” and “Locked Out of Heaven,” and a list of some of the greatest performers in history.
“His style and sound is steeped in traditions of early rock and roll, soul, funk, Motown, doo-wop, reggae, classic R&B, disco and hip-hop,” Gerry Krochak wrote in a Calgary Sun review of the show.
“But in front of a delirious sold-old crowd at a jam-packed Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday evening, Mars channelled the spirit of Elvis Presley, Little Richard, James Brown, Prince and Michael Jackson into something that’s really all his own.
“Flanked by the fabulous Hooligans (his stellar and skin-tight eight-piece backing outfit), Mars commanded the crowd early with Moonshine (from 2012’s monster Unorthodox Jukebox album), Natalie and mega-hit Treasure in rapid-fire succession.”
Mars brings the show to the Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena Aug. 14.
