Markleeville man killed in collision

Tribune staff reports

A 29-year-old Markleeville man was killed during a vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on Highway 88 near Hope Valley Resort.

The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. when the driver of a 2010 Ford sedan was traveling westbound on Highway 88, according to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) press release. The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old woman from Shingle Springs, allowed her car to cross over to eastbound traffic for an unknown reason.

At the same time, the 31-year-old woman driver of a 1995 Subaru and her passenger, the man who was killed in the crash, were traveling eastbound. In an effort to avoid collision, the driver of the Subaru made an abrupt turn to the left toward the westbound lane. As the vehicle swerved left it was struck on the passenger side, causing fatal injuries to the passenger. The 29-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

The identities of the people involved were not included in the report.
