Ronald James McDonald died on April 17, 2013. Born in Ione, Washington on August 19, 1936, he was a fifty-year resident of South Lake Tahoe.
Ron graduated from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Washington. After graduating with a degree in business from the University of Denver he worked in management at Harrah’s Reno, transferring to Harrah’s Tahoe soon after. Later, he established a career in real estate, initially working for Dillingham Corporation in Tahoe Keys before creating M&M Realty, of which he was a co-owner.
An avid golfer, skier and sports enthusiast, Ron loved living in the mountains at his home on the meadow, with Heavenly Valley’s slopes providing the perfect backdrop. He devoted hundreds of volunteer hours to the development of the Blue Angels ski team, which his two daughters competed for during their youth. A passionate golfer, he was an active member of the Lake Tahoe Golf Club for much of his life. He practiced his Christian faith at the South Shore Christian Assembly church.
Ron is survived by his wife Bernie, his daughters Kim McDonald, Lisa McDonald Dhollande, and her husband Laurent. A kind and loving father, he was also a devoted and patient grandfather to his two grandchildren, Justine and Shane Dhollande.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be directed to the Heavenly Valley Ski Foundation Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 483, Zephyr Cove, Nevada, 89448-0483. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
