Police: Fire at historical Truckee landmark ‘suspicious’

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A fire that broke out in a historical building in downtown Truckee two weeks ago is being considered suspicious by the Truckee Police Department.

The fire at JStones Whitehouse Restaurant — formally known as the Kruger-White House and C.B. White House — at 10292 Donner Pass Road in the Brickelltown district was reported at 3:41 a.m. on April 11 and caused significant damage to the rear of the building. No one was hurt.

Officials with the Truckee Fire Protection District and several other fire districts and departments responded to the fire, putting out the blaze at around 5:15 a.m, according to a previous report.

The fire is under investigation by TPD and is being called “suspicious in nature,” according to a Wednesday press release from Capt. Harwood Mitchell.

When asked Thursday morning why the fire is considered suspicious, Mitchell declined to elaborate.

Anyone with information about the fire can contact Detective Arnie Lopez at 530-550-2336.
