Rogers, Dilorinzo joke at the Improv

I’m beginning to think that there’s something going on between both Kivi Rogers and Francis Dilorinzo. For the past several years they always seem to perform together up here. Coincidence? Then again the same could be said for Rocky LaPorte and Ron Morey for similar reasons. Actually, both Kivi and Francis are very fortunate being up here this time of year because, like last year when they were both booked up here together, they and their families were able to experience South Tahoe’s Lights on the Lake fireworks extravaganza. This being summer, I always encourage those comics with kids to try and get booked up here this time of year (by the way, we are now officially booked into the winter) so they can have a working vacation and makes for a better time for all ay know?

Kivi I’ve known for years well into the last century and he’s an affable guy who’s easy to get along with and doesn’t take things so seriously regarding life. Then again, if you knew Kivi’s personal situation you’d understand why in fact he is a comedian. He’s the second youngest of six boys and one girl who grew up in the Pueblo Del Rio housing projects. Comedy for him came easy as a means to get attention, but also to shield him from his environment. He had a loving family but, as we know sometimes, the world isn’t always so kind. Kivi told me that humor helped him during this time and that it also made him a popular kid in school because people gravitate around those who are positive.

Kivi took that positive energy (okay, and talent too) with him when he landed in southern California where he would eventually get spots on “The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno,” and nominated for Comedian of the Year by the National Association of Campus Activities. He’s made guest appearances on “The West Wing,” “Everybody Loves Raymond, “ “VIP,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “Dharma and Greg” and a host of television sitcoms and late-night appearances. In a weird twist of fate I saw in the movie, “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion” on cable that also starred Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow. Kivi’s also been in the feature film, and “What I Did For Love” and “The Amati Girls” that starred Academy Award winners Mercedes Ruehl and Cloris Leachman. It’s always an easy week with Kivi.

Frances Dilorinzo

As I mentioned earlier, some comics love working with other comics not just because of the chemistry but because they can hang offstage as well. Such is the case with Kivi’s feature act, Frances Dilorinzo. I could hang with her, too, because like Kivi, it is fun to chat with offstage. We’re fortunate, too, because normally she headlines; but, as I’ve said countless times before, comics who middle here more than 90 percent headline everywhere else in the country. Yes, Tahoe has gotten that popular when it comes to the Improv up here. I mean, seriously folks would you rather headline in say, Toledo, Ohio or middle here in Lake Tahoe? Thank you now let’s continue.

Frances acquired ‘the funny’ back in college and even though she didn’t get her degree in it she has since graduated in the fled of comedy and doing rather well. She has appeared on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” “Comics Unleashed” and Comedy Central. Frances has also been on both the Lifetime and BET Network, Inside Joke on SiTV and “Funny Money” on The Game Show Network. Past credits include “Que Loco” on Galavision, “Comic View” on BET, “South Coast Review” on Cox Cable and “Comedy Factory” on Netherlands TV. She’s also performed overseas for our men and women in uniform making her one of the more sought-after comics to have on the marquee. However, you can thank the world wide web for exposing her to literally millions with one short clip entitled, “Homemade Implants” which has been an ongoing YouTube sensation for several years now. I can’t remember how million views she has ascertained over time but it’s a lot.
